Before I went zero waste, whenever I’d get sick, I’d have to go to the pharmacy and spend a bunch of money on green and blue liquids that came in plastic containers, with nasty ingredients, that tasted terrible and would end up just making me feel super drowsy. I knew there had to be a better way to heal your body than this.

When I started going zero waste I got really into natural ingredients and natural medicine as many over-the-counter medicines didn’t fit into my zero waste lifestyle. Through my research, I found an amazing cold remedy that I’ve been doing for years. It not only helps to prevent colds, but it helps cut down the duration of a cold if you already have one.

For the most part, it’s made out of natural ingredients that you already have in your kitchen, or could pick up at a grocery or health food store. Here’s how to make it:

Zero Waste Cold Remedy Ingredients:

  • A few tablespoons of apple cider vinegar
  • 1-2 teaspoons of fresh chopped garlic
  • 1-2 teaspoons of fresh chopped ginger
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper
  • Squeeze of half a lemon
  • Tablespoon of honey
  • 1-2 pinches of pink Himalayan salt
  • 2-3 drops of Echinacea
  • 2-3 drops oil of oregano
  • Optional: warm water to taste

It’s so simple to make. Simply mix all of the ingredients together and drink it straight in a few gulps, or feel free to add in some warm water and sip it slowly.

I love this recipe because when you’re drinking it, you can feel the ingredients working right away. Plus, you don’t have to worry about putting chemicals into your body.

Mix this up when you get the slightest hint of a cold and you’ll kick it to the curb!
